Atwood is an unincorporated community located in northern Indiana. It is positioned in Kosciusko County and is one of the smallest communities therein. Atwood was founded in the mid-1800s as Mount Ruska. In 1857, it was laid out as a village and served as an important trading location. Because the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne, and Chicago Railway passed through its boundaries, many individuals traveled to the community for business purposes. In 1865, citizens petitioned the community be named Atwood. The requests of the citizens were honored and the community is still known as Atwood.

Despite the small size of Atwood, residents are provided with a wonderful quality of life. There are four churches located in the community. These are Hope Church, Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Atwood Christian Fellowship, and Otterbein United Methodist Church. These churches provide care to the spiritual needs of Atwood residents. The city is also home to a beautiful downtown. This area of the community is occupied by red brick buildings and other structures that tell of the rich past of the community.
